This morning we decided to take one last walk around town before heading to Strassburg. We couldn’t get enough of this place. Above is a pic of the carpet in our hotel room. It was like walking on a picture of a sweater. Odd.

Here’s what a closed Christmas market looks like in the daylight. I thought it was fascinating to see how the shops close up with all their treasures inside.

One of the pieces of local flavor I loved here were the decorated Christmas trees on every street. Each one had been decorated by a school class. There was always a sign or note on the tree with the name of the class and the ages of the children who made the ornaments. I like imagining the children searching for their class’s tree so they could proudly show their parents the ornaments they’d made.

Another thing I loved here were the irregular cobblestone streets and walkways. They reminded me of crumb quilts or scrappy patchwork.

This was another fun experience we had. Yesterday I noticed some fun toy ornaments in this shop’s window.

I thought they’d be fun for the grandkids, so we went inside. I noticed the old family photos by the register and asked the owner and his daughter about them. One was his father who worked as a policeman and the other was his grandmother who opened this shop as a grocery store in 1927. Now his daughter is learning to run the family business. They were delightful. I love family history, everywhere I find it!

More interesting shops with fun window displays:

This 1465 building was next to our hotel.

It was almost too much beauty and history to take in. Glorious overload. I love this place.

Liebe Ann, ich liebe Deine Offenen Augen, mit den Du durch die Welt gehst und so wunderbar Dinge beschreibst 🫶
