A Walk Through Bad Homburg

We’ve lived in Bad Homburg since last October and we’ve never taken time or had time to wander here.  Usually on Saturdays we go out and about.  Today, our last Saturday, we decided to explore a bit here.  Besides that, we are tired and just about all traveled out!  We spent the morning organizing and getting ready to go home next week.   Then this afternoon we went out for a long walk into Bad Homburg and back.

This is the sugar beet field by our apartments.  We drive by here every day, watching the seasons change.  Lately it’s been frosty and cold.

About 5 minutes from where we live, we came upon this ROMAN VILLA.  We had no idea it was even here.  Wow.  The pottery found here dates back to between 135 and 150 A.D.

From Wikipedia:
In the district of Ober-Eschbach there are a number of archaeological finds from Roman times. At the upper end of Lorscher Straße there is an archaeological garden with the ruins of a villa rustica , which have been uncovered, preserved and become part of an open space. In 1991 they were discovered during the construction of a new housing development and opened to the public as an archaeological garden in 1995. The remains of the associated barns, granaries, stables and residential buildings were not preserved after the excavations were completed and had to make way for the new housing development.

Then we continued on our way.

Coming into town.

This is Louisenstrasse, the main shopping boulevard in Bad Homburg.

We stopped at this wonderful shop full of educational toys for kids.

Signs of spring!

Continuing our Pastry in Every Place tradition!

We walked along the Kurpark where the old resort/spa town originated.  This is where we came for the tennis tournament last year.

The homes across the street from the Kurpark were beautiful mansions.

Tragedy struck, even here.

This Russian Orthodox church was at the edge of the park.

We ended up in this cemetery, which was lovely, then we headed back home.  It was such a nice long walk!
