Grandma Elsa’s Home–now a Döner shop

My Grandma Elsa was born and grew up in the home on the corner by the Lutheran church.  For the last 20 years or so it’s been a Döner, or kebab and pizza shop.  Today we decided to have lunch at Grandma’s!

I showed the owners pictures of this home when it was still in the family.  I got to stay in this home in 1976 when I was visiting Tante Hilde Haussler.

Here’s how it looks today:

The food was delicious!

Looking north from Grandma’s house is where Grandpa’s house stood.  A few years ago it was torn down and a new apartment building was built in its place.

The Laemmlen family’s barn is still standing behind the new apartment building.

Here are a few details from Grandma’s house:

I’m glad the house still stands.  It’s not what it was, but then neither are we.

Here are a few more of the historical homes on the street where my grandparents grew up.
