On our way back to Frankfurt, we made one more stop, in Maastricht. We parked, then wandered to the old churches. The first one was closed–they’d just had a book fair there for several days and everyone was packing out. The next 2 churches were locked. Another one had been turned into a bookstore, or maybe it was more of the Book Fair going on there–the inside was gutted with a metal framed upstairs full of books. We didn’t get into a single cathedral/church. All have been repurposed into something else.
It was interesting to walk the streets on the Sabbath with all the shops (upper end boutiques) open for business. You don’t see that in Germany, where everything closes on Sundays.

The entry into this church was open, but that was all that was open. You couldn’t go beyond the entrance, where candles were burning.

A half-way house?
