The Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas Stores

These are some of the happiest Christmas places in Germany!  John usually just waits outside, knowing I’ll be gone awhile when I go into one of these stores.  The stores themselves are like labyrinths, with a path that takes you one way through the entire store with no turning back.  You will see it all!  And part of the beauty of these shops is seeing it ALL.  The little figures and ornaments play off each other in an enchanting way.  They all just look happy together.  And because of that, you cannot buy just one thing.

This is the Nativity music box that started everything.  You can read the interesting history of these stores here.

Walk with me through the shop.  There are more than 30,000 Christmas items here.

This give you an idea of how many parts and pieces in each ornament are hand-painted.

When I am home, these are the little things that speak Germany to me most of all.  I’ve treasured the ornaments I have for years.  And now I’ve added a few more.
